Als Nachfolger des Daimler Consort stellte BSA 1953 auf der London Motor Show den Daimler Conquest Saloon vor. Dieser war im Vergleich zu seinem Vorgänger kompakter und wies daher auch bessere Fahreigenschaften auf. Der Neuling mit der leichteren und kürzeren Bauform sollte ein Daimler für jedermann sein, worauf vermutlich auch auf die Namensgebung hinweist - „Conquest“ - der Eroberer.
Trotz der kompakten Bauweise wiegt der Daimler Conquest mitsamt sei- ner Ganzstahl-Karosserie 1397 kg. Daher hat der 2,4 Liter Sechs-Zylin- der-Motor keinen sehr hohen Wirkungsgrad . Eine recht gemütliche Be- schleunigung von 0 auf 100 km/h in 20,4 Sekunden ist deswegen nicht verwunderlich. Der laufruhige 6-Zylinder-Motor aus Gusseisen entstammt dem Lanchester Leda. Mit seinen 2433 ccm erreicht das Triebwerk eine Leistung von 90 PS bei 4000 U/min. Ein Großteil der produzierten Modelle wurde mit einer 4-Gang Automatik ausgestattet. Im Innenraum spürt man beim Conquest dann doch den Luxus der Marke Daimler.
Der Daimler Conquest 250 Saloon war das letzte Modell vor der Übernah- me der BSA Gruppe durch Jaguar im Jahr 1955.
As the successor to the Daimler Consort, BSA presented the Daimler Con- quest Saloon at the London Motor Show in 1953. The newcomer with the lighter and shorter design was intended to be a Daimler for everyone, which is probably also indicated by the name - „Conquest“ - the conqueror.
Despite its compact design, the Daimler Conquest, together with its all- steel body, weighs 1397 kg. Therefore, the 2.4 litre six-cylinder engine is not very efficient. A rather comfortable acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 20.4 seconds is therefore not surprising. The smooth-running cast iron 6-cylinder engine comes from the Lanchester Leda. With its 2433 ccm, the engine achieves an output of 90 hp at 4000 rpm. Most of the models produced were equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission. In the interior of the Conquest you can feel the luxury of the Daimler brand. The Daimler Conquest 250 Saloon was the last model before Jaguar took over the BSA Group in 1955.
