Der Volvo 1800 S, ein 2+2-sitziges Sportcoupé, basierte auf dem soliden Volvo Amazon (P120) und besaß den bewährten 1,8-Liter-Vierzylinder B18B mit sieben Prozent mehr Leistung auf 71 kW / 96 PS. Die Höchstgeschwindigkeit stieg auf 175 km/h, der Spurt von 0 auf 100 km/h erfolgte in 12,1 Sekunden - Werte, die damals nur Sportwagen oder leistungsstarke Limousinen erreichten.
Als erstes Sportcoupé bietet der schnelle Volvo 1800 S serienmäßig Sicherheitsgurte für alle vier Insassen. Seine Stabilität demonstrierte Volvo Deutschland spektakulär über dem Hamburger Hafen, als ein Stuntman in einem Volvo 1800 S nur von Volvo Dreipunkt-Sicherheitsgurten gehalten über dem Hafen schwebte. Auch bei der Ladungssicherung bewies Volvo Innovationsgeist: Integrierte Ledergurte sicherten schwere Golfbags im großzügig dimensionierten Gepäckraum. Die Sitze waren mit zusätzlicher Rückenstütze, mehr Seitenhalt und feinstem Connolly-Leder erhältlich.

The top speed rose to 175 km/h, the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h was achieved in 12.1 seconds - values that only sports cars or powerful saloons could achieve at the time.
The fast Volvo 1800 S was the first sports coupé to offer seat belts for all four occupants as standard. Volvo Germany demonstrated its stability spectacularly over the port of Hamburg when a stuntman in a Volvo 1800 S hovered over the harbor held only by Volvo three-point safety belts. Volvo also demonstrated its innovative spirit when it came to load securing: Integrated leather belts secured heavy golf bags in the generously dimensioned luggage compartment. The seats were available with additional back support, more lateral support and the finest Connolly leather.
