Ab dem 5. März 1955 präsentierte BMW der Öffentlichkeit ein Fahrzeug, dass in seiner Form, Konstruktion und Wirtschaftlichkeit seinesgleichen sucht. In dem Produktionszeitraum von 1955 bis 1962 wurden 161 728 Isetta Motorcoupe´s gebaut und nur Goggomobil konnte mehr Verkäufe in dem Bereich der Kleinstfahrzeuge aufweisen. Dennoch stammen die Pläne nicht von BMW. Die ursprünglichen Pläne dieses ungewöhnlichen Rollermobils stammen von Renz Rivolte, dem Firmenchef der Motorrad- fabrik ISO-Rivolta. 1954 stellte dieser sein dreirädriges Rollermobil ISO – Isetta auf dem Turiner Automobilsalon vor. BMW entdeckt in diesem Modell eine neue wirtschaftliche Zukunft, da zu diesem Zeitpunkt BMW fast vor einer wirtschaftlichen Misere stand, und erwarb die Lizenzen zum Bau der Isetta.
Die Fronttüre klappt wie eine Kühlschranktüre auf. Das Lenkrad ist an der Fronttüre befestigt und schwenkt beim Öffnen nach vorne und zur Seite.
From March 5, 1955, BMW presented a vehicle to the public that was unparalleled in terms of shape, construction and economy. In the pro- duction period from 1955 to 1962, 161,728 Isetta motor coupes were built and only Goggomobil could boast more sales in the microcar seg- ment. Nevertheless, the plans do not come from BMW. The original plans for this unusual scooter come from Renz Rivolte, the head of the ISO-Rivolta motorcycle factory. In 1954 he presented his three-wheeled scooter ISO - Isetta at the Turin Motor Show. BMW discovered a new economic future in this model, since at that time BMW was almost in financial trouble, and acquired the licenses to build the Isetta.
The front door opens like a refrigerator door. The steering wheel is atta- ched to the front door and swings forward and sideways when opened.
