Im März 1964 debütierte Automobili Lamborghini mit dem 350 GT auf dem Genfer Autosalon. Nur wenige Monate zuvor, im Oktober 1963, präsentierte das Unternehmen seinen ersten Prototyp, den 350 GTV, entworfen von Franco Scaglione und gebaut von Sargiotto. Der 350 GT, abgeleitet vom Prototyp, markierte den Beginn einer beeindruckenden Geschichte für Lamborghini und legte den Grundstein
für die DNA des Unternehmens aus Sant’Agata.
Der 350 GT war nicht nur Lamborghinis erstes Serienmodell, sondern auch ein Meisterwerk der Automobiltechnik seiner Zeit. Das Chassis wurde vom jungen Ingenieur Giampaolo Dallara entworfen, der später als einer der besten Chassisbauer der Welt bekannt wurde. Der V12-Motor mit 3,5 Litern Hubraum und vier obenliegenden Nockenwellen, ursprünglich als Rennmotor von Giotto Bizzarrini konzipiert, wurde von Paolo Stanzani für den Straßeneinsatz optimiert. Die Aluminiumkarosserie wurde von Carrozzeria Touring, einem renommierten Karosseriebauer der 60er-Jahre, gefertigt.
In March 1964, Automobili Lamborghini made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show with the 350 GT. Just a few months earlier, in October 1963, the company presented its first prototype, the 350 GTV, designed by Franco Scaglione and built by Sargiotto. The 350 GT, derived from the prototype, marked the beginning of an impressive history for Lamborghini and laid the foundations for the DNA of the company from Sant’Agata.
The 350 GT was not only Lamborghini’s first production model, but also a masterpiece of automotive engineering of its time. The chassis was designed by the young engineer Giampaolo Dallara, who later became known as one of the best chassis builders in the world. The V12 engine with a displacement of 3.5 liters and four overhead camshafts, originally designed as a racing engine by Giotto Bizzarrini, was optimized for road use by Paolo Stanzani. The aluminum body was manufactured by Carrozzeria Touring, a renowned coachbuilder of the 1960s.
