Eins dieser Kinder ist die 12-jährige Sofija (Name geändert). Gemeinsam mit ihrer Mutter Diana (Name) flüchtete sie nach Berlin. Dort wurden die beiden auf das Angebot der Organi- sation Champions ohne Grenzen aufmerksam gemacht. „Die Mutter wirkte sehr offen und war sehr sport-begeistert, die Tochter Sofija wirkte depressiv-verschlossen.”, berichteten die Trainer*innen von Champions ohne Grenzen von der ers- ten Begegnung. “ Diana machte direkt bei dem Sportangebot mit, Sofija hingegen weigerte sich Sportkleidung anzuziehen und wollte nicht teilnehmen. Nach einer Weile nahmen eine freiwillige Sprachmittlerin aus Belarus und ein weiterer Trai- ner Kontakt mit Sofija auf, die bis dahin nur zuschaute. Im Ge- spräch stellte sich heraus, dass Sofija sehr schüchtern war und keine Turnschuhe hatte. Die Trainer*innen gaben ihr Turnschu- he und als Sofija sah, wie viel Spaß ihre Mutter und die ande- ren Teilnehmer*innen bei dem Sportangebot hatten, entschied sie sich dann doch noch mitzumachen. Es schien so, als hätte sie dabei für den Moment ihre Sorgen vergessen können. Nach dem Training erzählte Diana, dass Sofija sehr viel Angst habe und außerdem sehr traurig sei, dass sie ihre Freund*innen, ih- ren Vater und ihre Stadt hatte verlassen müssen. Sofija wolle nun immerzu ins Internet gehen und es sei sehr schwer für sie als Mutter, ihre Tochter zu Aktivitäten zu motivieren.
An dem Programm von Chamipons ohne Grenzen haben Diana und Sofija nach dieser Begegnung regelmäßig teilgenommen. Sie haben dadurch in Deutschland eine sportliche Aktivität gefunden, die sowohl ihr physisches als auch ihr psychisches Wohlbefinden stärkt. Sofija hat zudem die Chance genutzt, beim Mädchenfußball und beim Boxen ein Schnuppertraining zu machen. Aus dem verschlossenen und verängstigt wirken- den Mädchen ist in der kurzen Zeit eine offene, selbstbewuss- tere Sofija geworden, die ihre eigenen Ideen und Wünsche in das Training einbringt und wieder Lust auf jegliche Aktivitäten hat. Die Schuhe, die Sofija erhielt, und die ihr erst den Zugang zu dem Angebot ermöglichten, in welchem sie sich so schnell entwickelte, wurden über den Laureus Sport for Peace Fund finanziert. Dieses Beispiel zeigt, wie viel bereits eine kleine Unterstützung bewirken kann.
Die Geschichte von Sofija ist kein Einzelfall und der Bedarf die- ser zielgerichteten Unterstützungsangebote ist weiterhin sehr hoch, denn die Weiterführung der regelmäßigen Angebote ist sehr wichtig, um den ukrainischen Kindern in der nach wie vor schwierigen Lage, eine Stütze, Hoffnung und eine Perspektive zu geben. Deswegen bedanken wir uns für jede weitere Spen- de in den „Sport for Peace Ukraine Fund“.

There, the two were made aware of the facilities offered by the organisa- tion Champions ohne Grenzen (Champions without Borders). „The mother seemed very open and was really enthusiastic about sport, while her daughter Sofija made a depressed and withdrawn impression,“ reported the Champions ohne Grenzen trainers after their first encounter. „Diana took part in the sports programme right away, but Sofija refused to put on the sports- wear and didn‘t want to participate. After a while, a volunteer interpreter from Belarus and another trainer went to talk with Sofija, who until then had only been watching. During the con- versation, it turned out that Sofija was very shy and didn‘t have any training shoes. The trainers gave her a pair, and when Sofija saw how much fun her mother and the other participants were having on the sports programme, she decided to join in after all. It seemed as if she had been able to forget her worries for the moment. After the training session, Diana said that Sofija was really scared and also very sad that she had to leave her friends, her father and her town. Sofija now wants to go online all the time, and it is extremely difficult for Diana as a mother to motivate her daughter to undertake anything.
After this encounter, Diana and Sofija have regularly participa- ted in the Champions ohne Grenzen programme. In doing so, they have found a sporting activity in Germany that strengthens both their physical and psychological well-being. Sofija also took the opportunity to have a go at girls‘ football and boxing. Within a short time, the withdrawn and frightened girl has be- come an open, self-confident Sofija, who contributes her own ideas and wishes to the training sessions and is keen to take part in all kinds of activities again. The training shoes Sofija was given, which gave her access to the range of activities in which she developed so quickly, were financed through the Laureus Sport for Peace Fund. This example demonstrates how much even just a little support can achieve.
Sofija‘s story is not an isolated case, and the need for these goal-oriented support services is still very great, because the continuation of the regular offers is absolutely crucial to give Ukrainian children support, hope and a perspective in what continues to be a difficult situation.
