Dieser kleine formschöne Rennwagen ist ein Wolf im Schafspelz. Er wirkt eher wie ein kleiner Straßenwagen, machte seinerzeit allerdings die Rennstrecken Europas unsicher. Angetreten sind die Fiat Abarth in der Gruppe 1 und 2 der Weltmeisterschaften. Der superleichte Sportler basiert zum einen auf einem Fiat 850 und wurde mit Teilen des Simca 100 getuned. Der 1,3 Liter Vierzylinder-Reihenmotor wurde bei Corso Marche von Luchiano Fochi modifiziert und fünffach gelagert, mit zwei obenliegenden Nockenwellen und zwei Weber Doppelvergasrern aus- gestattet. Die von Mario Calucci gezeichnete Karosserie besteht aus leichtem Kunststoff und wurde bei Sibona & Basano in Turin hergestellt. Wegen der Homologation wurden genau 50 Exemplare hergestellt.
1966 und 1967 gewannen Teams mit ihrem Abarth 1300 OT die Grup- pe 1 Grand Touring Championship und ab 1966 drei Jahre in Folge die Gruppe 4 Italian Championship.
This small shapely racing car is a wolf in sheep‘s clothing. It looks more like a small road car, but was making the racetracks of Europe unsafe at the time. The Fiat Abarth competed in groups 1 and 2 of the world championships. The super light athlete is based on a Fiat 850 and was tuned with parts from the Simca 100. The 1.3 liter four-cylinder in-line engine was modified by Luchiano Fochi at Cor- so Marche and fitted with five bearings, two overhead camshafts and two Weber double carburettors. The body, designed by Mario Calucci, is made of lightweight plastic and was manufactured by Sibona & Basano in Turin. Exactly 50 copies were made because of the homologation.
