Das Petersen Automotive Museum wird am 11. Mai seine größte und umfassendste Lowrider-Ausstellung, “Best in Low: Lowrider Icons of the Street and Show”, eröffnen. Die Ausstellung im Mullin Grand Salon zelebriert die Kunstfertigkeit, Kultur und Geschichte der Lowrider und zeigt mobile Meisterwerke, die für ihre aufwendige Handwerkskunst bekannt sind.
Die Ausstellung hebt die charakteristischen Merkmale der Lowrider-Kultur hervor, darunter Sonderlackierungen, Gravuren, die Schwerkraft überwindende Federung und Plüschpolsterung. Außerdem werden Kunstwerke und Fotografien von einflussreichen Künstlern der Chicano-Lowrider- Kunstszene gezeigt. Unter den ausgestellten Fahrzeugen befindet sich der ikonische Chevrolet Impala “Gypsy Rose” von 1964, der erste Lowrider, der in das National Historic Vehicle Registry aufgenommen wurde.
Weitere bemerkenswerte Lowrider sind die dreimaligen Gewinner des Lowrider Magazine Lowrider of the Year: das 1958 Chevrolet Impala Cabriolet “Final Score” und der 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air “Double Trouble”. Die Ausstellung zeigt auch die Handwerkskunst von Albert De Alba Sr. und Albert De Alba Jr. mit ihrem 1958er Chevrolet Impala “Dead Presidents” und dem 1954er Chevrolet 210 Sedan “Sphinx”, der in der japanischen Lowrider- Gemeinde großen Einfluss hatte. Außerdem werden das “Twisted Toy”-Fahrrad, das dreimal zum Lowrider- Fahrrad des Jahres gekürt wurde, und zahlreiche andere ikonische Lowrider-Autos, -Motorräder und -Fahrräder zu sehen sein.
The Petersen Automotive Museum is set to unveil its largest and most comprehensive lowrider exhibit, “Best in Low: Lowrider Icons of the Street and Show,” on May 11. Located in the Mullin Grand Salon, the exhibit celebrates the artistry, culture, and history of lowriders, showcasing mobile masterpieces renowned for their intricate craftsmanship.
The exhibit highlights the distinctive features of lowrider culture, including custom paint, engraving, gravity-defying suspension, and plush upholstery. It also features artwork and photography from influential artists in the Chicano lowrider art scene. Among the vehicles on display is the iconic 1964 Chevrolet Impala “Gypsy Rose,” the first lowrider inducted into the National Historic Vehicle Registry.
Other notable lowriders include the three-time Lowrider magazine Lowrider of the Year winners: the 1958 Chevrolet Impala convertible “Final Score” and the 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air “Double Trouble.” The exhibit also showcases the craftsmanship of Albert De Alba Sr. and Albert De Alba Jr. with their 1958 Chevrolet Impala “Dead Presidents,” along with the 1954 Chevrolet 210 Sedan “Sphinx,” influential in the Japanese lowriding community. Additionally, the “Twisted Toy” bicycle, a three-time Lowrider Bicycle of the Year, and numerous other iconic lowrider cars, motorcycles, and bicycles will be on display.
