Elvis Presley, der “King of Rock’n’Roll”, war nicht nur ein musikalisches Genie, sondern auch ein leidenschaftlicher Motorradfahrer. Während seiner Filmkarriere trat er häufig auf einem TRIUMPH- Motorrad auf, so auch in der Westernkomödie “Stay Away Joe” (1968), wo er eine rot-silberne TRIUMPH 650 Bonneville “Desert Sled” fuhr.
Schon Jahre zuvor war Elvis mit der britischen Marke in Berührung gekommen. Während der Dreharbeiten zum Musical “Frankie und Johnny” im Juni 1965 in Hollywood verbrachte er die Drehpausen mit seinen engsten Freunden, der “Memphis Mafia”. Eines ihrer Mitglieder, Jerry Schilling, zahlte beim Motorradhändler Robertson & Sons am Santa Monica Boulevard eine Anzahlung für eine neue TRIUMPH T120 650 Bonneville.
